The Opportunity

An established and growing boutique investment management firm is seeking an experienced Investment Operations Manager to lead and enhance its investment operations function.

The business provides bespoke multi-asset investment and wealth management solutions and operates a partner-led model, combining institutional investment standards with a highly client-focused culture. The firm has recently expanded its wealth planning capabilities and continues to invest in operational infrastructure and data capability.

This is a senior operational role reporting directly to the Managing Partner. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day investment operations while driving process improvement, data coordination and operational risk management across the business.

Key Purpose of the Role

To manage and develop the firm’s investment operations function, ensuring accurate, efficient and compliant delivery across trading support, reporting, tax and regulatory processes.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Manage investment operations processes across Model Portfolio Services (MPS), Bespoke Portfolio Services (BPS) and consultancy clients
  • Line manage the Trade Analyst, providing oversight, training and quality control
  • Oversee:
    • Trading and transaction processing
    • Corporate actions and events reporting
    • MIFID transaction reporting
    • Tax and regulatory reporting
  • Drive operational risk management and continuous process improvement

Trading & Workflow Oversight

  • Maintain detailed understanding of trading workflows and controls
  • Review and quality-check trading-related operational tasks when required
  • Support oversight of MPS rebalances and investigate discrepancies

Tax & Reporting Ownership

  • Own CGT and broader investment tax reporting
  • Handle complex and non-standard tax scenarios
  • Investigate data exceptions and ensure accuracy of outputs
  • Review consultancy client reports for consistency and integrity

Fees & Controls

  • Oversee quarterly fee calculations and costs & charges disclosures
  • Reconcile fee data across systems
  • Identify automation and control enhancement opportunities

Systems & Data

  • Develop strong technical understanding of security setup across asset classes
  • Ensure correct system configuration and data integrity
  • Work strategically to improve coordination of operational data for MI, KPI and marketing reporting
  • Investigate and resolve data exceptions across systems

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Investment, Client Services and Compliance teams
  • Ensure all duties align with regulatory requirements and internal control frameworks
  • Contribute to improvements that enhance both operational resilience and client outcomes

Skills & Experience

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within UK investment management, wealth management or financial services
  • Strong background in investment operations, including trading support, reconciliations and reporting
  • Experience with regulatory reporting (including MIFID)
  • Exposure to tax reporting (CGT and general investment tax preferred)
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior operational staff

Technical & Operational Expertise

  • Strong understanding of post-trade operations and reconciliations
  • Knowledge of fees, costs & charges and reporting processes
  • Experience working across multiple operational systems and data platforms
  • Strong control awareness and operational risk mindset
  • SQL knowledge beneficial but not essential

Qualifications

This role would suit a technically strong and commercially aware investment operations professional who enjoys ownership and accountability. You will be comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on, with the ability to enhance systems, controls and data integrity in a growing, entrepreneurial environment.
